Mr. Samir K Modi (Founder and Managing Director, Modicare Limited)
SOMETIMES LIFE IS ALL ABOUT RISKING EVERYTHING
FOR A DREAM THAT NO ONE CAN SEE BUT YOU
Mr. Samir K Modi is an intuitive entrepreneur, constantly striving to bring new and radical ideas to life. He is also the Executive Director, K. K. Modi Group – part of the US$ 2.8 billion Modi Enterprises, founded by his grandfather Rai Bahadur Gujarmal Modi in 1933; Director, Godfrey Phillips India Limited; Director, Indofil Industries Limited; Founder & President, 24Seven Convenience Stores and Founder & Managing Director, Colorbar Cosmetics.
In Nov 2018 Mr. Modi took over as President of the Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI). He is also a member of the FICCI Executive Committee.
An alumnus of the famed Harvard Business School, Mr. Samir K Modi stint in US has given him a global perspective and a multicultural approach to work. During his tenure there, the success of Indians worldwide amazed him. And yet throughout his years in the US, and on his several social welfare trips, he had seen the crude contradictions of this success.
He began to understand that the only way to replicate success in India was through economic independence.
Continuing his family’s tradition of nation building, in 1996, at the young age of 25, Mr. Modi launched India’s first Direct Selling Company, Modicare, with the vision of giving ‘Freedom’ to the common Indian. His mantra for success has been “Soch Badlo, Khudko Badlo, Duniya Badlo”. He believes that, if we change ourselves, we can achieve the impossible and get ‘Azadi’ to realise our dreams. Today, Modicare is one of the fastest growing direct selling companies in India and is changing the lives of lakhs of Indians. The Modicare Azadi Movement is creating a revolution and lakhs of people are joining Modicare every month.
With his finger on the pulse of the emerging, new Indian consumer, Mr. Samir K Modi felt the need for an Indian cosmetics brand offering products at par with international brands. This led him to establish Colorbar Cosmetics in 2004. Today, it is the third largest cosmetics brand in an industry dominated by international giants.
Another brainchild of Mr. Samir K Modi is the 24Seven Convenience Stores; India’s first of its kind round-the-clock convenience retail chain, launched in 2005. It now has over 90 stores in Delhi-NCR and Chandigarh.
Mr. Samir K Modi also took the onus of continuing the philanthropic tradition of his family and set up the Modicare Foundation in 1996. The Foundation has done extensive work in the field of HIV/AIDS Awareness, gender related issues and works proactively for children’s education.
